After getting roasted, Philhealth chief promises to study about public health

Hey, it’s a start?

After the Internet roasted him for admitting that he knows little about the very agency that he’s heading, newly-appointed Philhealth Chief Dante Gierran recently promised that he would do his part to catch-up on the concept of public health.

‘Of course, aaralin ko [public health]. Aaralin ko ‘yan, ‘di ko nga alam eh. Alangan naman sabihin ko alam ko eh hindi ko nga alam?’, said Gierran in press briefing, per ABS-CBN News. The former director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) also acknowledged that his critics were well within their rights to voice their concerns.

Following the backlash, Malacañang earlier justified Gierran’s appointment, saying that his former role as an investigator, as well as being a certified public accountant-lawyer, would help in ridding Philhealth of its lingering corruption issues.

For his part, Gierran targets to rid the agency of its irregularities in 2 years, citing the full support of President Duterte and his anti-corruption task force composed of former NBI colleagues as sources of his optimism.

Gierran succeeds former military official Ricardo Morales, who bowed out of the position due to lingering health issues from lymphoma.
