After UST, Ateneo also ditches its college entrance exams
See ya later, ACET
Following the University of Sto. Tomas, Ateneo De Manila University has now decided to follow suit and cancel the Ateneo College Entrance Test for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.
Based on the school’s official admissions page, applicants will now be judged based on their ‘past academic performance, on the recommendations of teachers, essay, and on information written down on the application form’.
Application for the new SY will run from September 1 to December 1, 2020.
We know there is a lot going on and we don’t want to create more unneeded drama and stress. There will be no Ateneo…

UST also made a similar decision a month ago when it dropped the UST Entrance Exams (USTET) in favor of UST Admission Rating (USTAR), citing the ongoing quarantine restrictions in the metro. USTAR judges admissions based on the ‘academic performance and records of the applicant’.
Just like before, reactions have been mixed, with some commending Ateneo’s move, while others aired issues of unbalanced grading systems. Entrance exams also serve as some sort of ‘redemption’ for those with less-than-stellar academic performances, although the current pandemic does call for certain adjustments.
me realizing i've spent *months* of my life reviewing for the ACET which is not happening pic.twitter.com/6pTrgtHnc3

idk what to feel about the cancellation of acet,, like bro not everyone has the best grades n you can't measure someone's performance n intelligence by their grades, ,, I just feel like the hard way was the more equal way

acet and ustet being cancelled this year is good, but having them rely on grades and extra-curricular activities would be a tad bit unfair? secondary schools don’t have the same grading system, thus making it harder for schools with low grader teachers—
