‘Among Us 2’ canceled because people won’t stop playing the OG game
Whenever a game receives overwhelming acclaim, the usual knee-jerk reaction for its developers is to bank on the hype and release a sequel ASAP. Such isn’t the case for Innersloth, who are the minds behind the hit-party game, ‘Among Us’.
The studio recently revealed on their blog that any plans for a sequel has officially been scrapped, thanks to the insane fanfare surrounding the title. Per The Verge, the game boasts around 10 million downloads on Steam alone, not counting those playing on mobile.
Instead of a follow-up, Innersloth reveals that the planned newer features would instead go to the OG game.

‘The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content’.
‘However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level’.
And while reworking an outdated platform would probably entail a whole lotta work, the devs were excited to tease new improvements, such as better servers, colorblind support, and a new stage area.
‘Among Us’ was first released back in 2018 with little to no fanfare, but experienced a boom in popularity after finding a crowd with Twitch streamers two years later.
