COMELEC wants Filipinos to posts more about voting on social media
#IWillVoteIn2022
After talks that the 2022 elections could be postponed amidst ‘pandemic fears‘ [cue Manila Bay crowd shots], the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is urging Filipinos to voice out the need to vote on social media.
‘Send a message: #iwillvotein2022,’ Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said via his personal Twitter.
He also proposed people to post a thinking selfie ‘to send the message that you will vote in 2022 and that you are seriously thinking about who you should vote for.’

Zip code envy is real.

Jimenez’ Tweets comes after House Deputy Majority Leader Mikey Arroyo opened the possibility of moving the May 2022 elections amidst the pandemic.
Arroyo shared.
‘First and foremost, what is important is [COMELEC] should be ready for the safety nets in place and when I was asking them in the committee hearing, mukhang hinahanda naman nila ang mag-plan B sila, plan C, plan D.’
Arroyo was immediately met with criticism for claims that the postponement is only meant to extend the current politicians’ reign. Vice President Leni Robredo went on to cite Manila Bay and other tourist sites opening amidst the pandemic, and the Palace has since rejected the idea.
Arroyo went on to clarify that a postponement will just be the ‘last resort‘ if ever the pandemic still persists to 2022. Check out our guide on becoming a registered voter.
