Expect more local films to reach Netflix, streaming sites amidst pandemic – FDCP
While most cinemas (except drive-in theatres) remain closed amidst the pandemic, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) aims to introduce more PH films to accessible streaming sites, such as Netflix.
‘Dumadami pa siya every month kasi on going pa ang pakikipag-usap ng ating producers para magka-space ang ating mga pelikula, especially now that cinemas are closed,‘ shared FDCP Chair Liza Diño during a Senate budget hearing.
‘These are more adaptable and more palatable to the digital platform… [kasi] ang attention span ng mga tao maliit.’

Per Diño, there are now around 70 PH films on all streaming platforms, with at least 5 to 15 titles coming in every month.
This comes at a time when almost everyone is dependent on the Internet while on lockdown. Many local films and series are also getting a second life thru Netflix, such as the Rocketsheep animated film ‘Hayop Ka! The Nimfa Dimaano Story‘ and the first PH-made anime ‘Barangay 143‘, both dropping this October.
Let’s just hope MTRCB don’t get themselves in the mix again.
