PH artist Chall, or Cloud on Facebook, just accomplished the modern performance art we never thought was possible: staring at Manila Bay ‘white sands‘ until his mental health improved.

In the Facebook Live titled ‘Staring at white sand until my mental health is okay‘, we see Chall staring at a printed picture of the controversial Manila Bay dolomite construction. He looks earnest, if not expecting, that his mental health will be aided by the government’s PHP 28M-worth decision. This goes on for about 5 hours.

As we said, it’s pretty much the epitome of modern meme art.

Chall’s video comes after Presidential Spox Harry Roque claimed that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) move of ‘white sanding‘ Manila Bay isn’t a hindrance, but could actually help Filipinos’ mental health.

‘Kasi alam mo, sa gitna ng pandemya, kinakailangan din na pangalagaan ang mental health,’ Roque shared on September 5.

‘I think, yung pagpapasyal sa mga lugar kagaya ng Manila Bay, hindi mo maka-quantify ang epekto niyan pagdating po sa mental health ng ating mga kababayan yung kapayapaan ng pag-iisip.’

Crowds of people then flocked (and likely broke physical distancing protocols) after the grand unveiling of Manila Bay last September 19. The good news is that we got a meme out of it, we guess?

Meanwhile, the latest news from the project is that tons of sandbags have been placed on the shores to keep the crushed dolomite in place. [One-night sand jokes ensue]
