GCash to start charging an additional fee for bank transfers
Heads up
Mobile wallet service GCash will start to charge users an additional fee in order to transfer to other banks starting this October 1, 2020.
The news comes from an updated page in the GCash Help site. The exact fee percentage remains unspecified as of writing.
‘Starting October 1, 2020, a fee will be charged per transaction.’
GCash previously planned to charge a 2.58% convenience fee for cash-in via bank card transactions last year, but it hasn’t been implemented for all users.
The e-wallet joins Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) in continuing fund transfer charges amidst the pandemic. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is set to request the banks to extend their transaction fees for the convenience of online banking for Filipinos
‘We can ask them to reconsider their earlier response to already impose said fees by [October] 1. Actually, it’s still up to the banks. But maybe we can persuade some of them through bilateral engagement.’ shared BSP Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier.
Hope it pulls through
