Indonesia’s ‘anti-maskers’ forced to dig graves for COVID-19 victims

That’s one way to handle a Karen

For some unfathomable reason, there are still people in this pandemic who choose not to wear a face mask. Dubbed as ‘Karens‘ and ‘Kens‘ in the USA, it seems that these so-called ‘anti-maskers’ are also making their way to Asia.

While PH lets people like Larry Gadon rant on, Indonesian authorities have seemed to found the remedy for their own, as they’re enforcing a pretty grim (but effective?) way to reprimand people digging their own graves by literally doing just that.

Per Jakarta Post, the province of East Java in Indonesia is punishing 8 mask violators with manual labor at a local cemetery in the hopes of making them see the necessary effects of the nationwide facemask mandate.

‘There are only three available gravediggers at the moment, so I thought I might as well put these people to work with them,’ said Cerme District head Suyono on the punishment.

‘Hopefully, this can create a deterrent effect against violations.’

The report furthered that the lawbreakers weren’t forced to actually handle the corpses, but only to dig graves and do labor in the cemetery. Talk about an awakening.

Meanwhile, Indonesia implemented mandatory mask-wearing in pvblic back in April, as the country has reported over 220,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 158,000 recovered, and 8,000+ deaths as of writing.
