Japan actually built a moving, life-sized Gundam
Dreams do come true
Japan just brought to life one of our earliest childhood fantasies: a moving, functioning, life-sized model of a giant anime robot. The mecha in question is the OG RX-78 Gundam, which Japanese Twitter managed to capture taking a step, bending the knee, and even doing what we assume is its best attempt at an ‘Ok’ hand sign.

But while it might not be fighting alien robots anytime soon given its noticeably slooowww maneuvers IRL (the video was sped up), fans can see the 60-foot mecha in the Yamashita Pier in Yokohama, Japan, where it’ll be stored before it becomes a part of an upcoming amusement park called the Gundam Factory.
The replica was first completed back in August and was scheduled to debut this October along with the park, but was delayed due to the ongoing pandemic.

There’s no word yet on when the new opening will be, but it’s safe to say we’re adding this one to our travel bucket list.
