Lloyd Cadena paved the way for today’s PH vloggers

RIP to a pioneer

Longtime PH online personality Lloyd Cafe Cadena passed away today due to undisclosed reasons, with the shocking news being announced on his official Facebook page.

‘It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the untimely demise of our beloved brother Lloyd Cafe Cadena.’

‘May he be remembered for all the joy and laughter he shared with everyone. My family and I ask for your prayers, respect, and privacy during this time.’

Though he’s long past being only a YouTube vlogger, we can’t deny the impact he’s made on Pinoy internet culture.

Lloyd started out in 2009 with his first YT channel simply dubbed ‘LloydCafeCadena‘, where he posted song parodies of Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey.

From then, he skyrocketed into stardom to signing a contract with ABS-CBN – a huge feat for someone just vlogging from the four corners of his intensely pink room. Yeah, you know the one.

Vlogging was uncharted territory back then, and though his sense of humor was probably seen as corny, lowbrow, or even too ‘masa‘, Lloyd Cadena paved the way for many personalities we know today.

Lloyd’s videos may not be as polished or aesthetic as what we’re used to, but without his initial impact and success, many probably wouldn’t have taken the first step at all.

At its core, Lloyd’s vlogs were raw content from a genuinely funny guy just living his life and taking us along for the ride. Although not everyone has watched his videos (or won’t admit to), you know his ‘hugots‘ and memes have managed to make their way into mainstream consciousness for years.

That’s the sad part: For some, it’s losing a familiar face – for many, a long-time online friend.

Sadly, I rarely watched any of Lloyd’s vlogs prior to his passing. I’ve long been out of the radar for someone who enjoyed his content growing up.

But when I watched one of his newer vlogs through an architect reacting to his unfinished house, it’s nice to see that 11 years and so much growth later, he remains the same jolly Lloyd cracking jokes and spreading the good vibes. We’d like to think he’ll stay that way forever.

‘Lloyd Cadena, para sa pagbabago’
