PH’s first local anime is headed to Netflix
This October, peeps
Mark your calendars, as PH’s very first Filipino-made anime series is officially dropping on Netflix this October 1.
Titled ‘Barangay 143‘, the sports animated series follows fictional Korean basketball player Bren Park as he moves to the Philippines in search of his father. During his stay, he finds a place in Tondo, Manila and regains his love for the sport through an ‘unlikely team of misfits’.

First aired in GMA-7 from October 2018 to June 2019, the series showcases the voice of veteran actors John Arcilla, Edu Manzano, Lorna Tolentino, and Cherie Gil.
They’re also accompanied by Julie Anne San Jose, Ruru Madrid, Migo Adecer, Kelley Day, and OG basketball players Benjie Paras and Doug Kramer.
‘Barangay 143‘ serves as the first collab between Japanese network TV Asahi and PH animation studio Synergy88.
