Study dubs ‘Insidious’ as the scariest horror film ever

Horror fans, agree?

A study by UK’s Buzz Bingo has found that the 2010s ‘Insidious‘ is the scariest horror movie of the past decade.

The study was divided into three parts: ‘tension‘, ‘biggest scares’, and ‘most scares’. Participants were hooked to a heart rate monitor to see which films triggered the body’s fight or flight responses the most.

The chosen titles came from where’sthejump.com‘s highest-rated jumpscares such as ‘The Haunting in Connecticut’, ‘The Conjuring 2’, ‘Annabelle: Creation’, ‘The Haunting in Connecticut 2’, ‘Sinister’, ‘Banshee’, ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,’ ‘Extraterrestrial‘, and ‘The Messengers’.

Participant’s beats per minute (BPM) were tested while watching the 10 films, looking out for consistent skips and drops. It was then found that Insidious won the categories for Most Tense.

Meanwhile, ‘Annabelle: The Creation’ beat the other films for the Biggest Scares, and ‘Conjuring 2′ took the prize for Most Scares.

 

 

Despite not taking the top spot for the other categories, ‘Insidious‘ consistent high increase of 23.1 BPM throughout the film officially dubs it as the Scariest Horror movie (at least for Buzz Bingo).

ICYDK, ‘Insidious‘ is a Blumhouse Productions film that follows supernatural-hunting woman Elise Rainier. It’s since spawned 3 installments: ‘Insidious: Chapter 2′, ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’, and ‘Insidious: The Last Key’.

Years after its release, Blumhouse Productions has since introduced socio-political horror films such as ‘Get Out‘ and ‘Us‘ which has been deemed a ‘horror movie renaissance‘.

Guess we don’t need fiction to be scared anymore
