Tokyo Olympics 2021 is happening ‘with or without COVID’

The confidence

Even amidst the growing COVID-19 cases in, well, the entire world, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) still stands by the opening of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics next year.

‘[The Olympics] will take place with or without COVID. The games will start July next year,’ shared IOC Vice President John Coates. The Tokyo Olympics will officially run from July 23 to August 8, 2021, exactly a year after its original date.

The ICO VP furthered that the original theme of ‘Reconstruction‘ brought by Tokyo’s 2011 earthquake and tsunami is more relevant than ever amidst the pandemic.

‘Now very much these will be the Games that conquered COVID, the light at the end of the tunnel.’

The Telegraph

ICYDK, The 2020 Olympics was postponed this year as their ingenious 2020 logo with the matching insignia was scrapped amidst the pandemic.

Over 11,000 athletes from 200 countries were scheduled to fly to Japan and take part in the Games earlier this year, but the IOC is now looking to ‘simplify’ the ceremonies with a reduced audience number and safety protocols in place.

They also won’t be waiting for a treatment either, as Tokyo Olympics chief executive Toshiro Muto said that a vaccine would be a ‘benefit‘, but ‘not a precondition‘ for the event.

Hopefully it happens sans-COVID though
