Doraemon’s OG voice actor has passed away

The Japanese actor who brought to life one of our childhood icons has passed away. Tomita Kosei, best known for his work as the original voice of Doraemon, died at age 84 due to a stroke according to multiple reports.

Kosei first voiced the robotic cat back in 1973, and since went on to work on more than 50 films and animes, including Detective Conan, Astro Boy, Black Jack, and Lupin the Third. He also had parts in video games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Fallout: New Vegas

Overseas, he provided dubbing for films such as The Godfather, Rocky films, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

For his extensive work, he earned a Lifetime Achievement nod from Japan’s Seiyu Awards, which recognizes the ‘voice acting talent for outstanding performance in anime and other media’.
