Marvel, just give us a goddamn Spider-Verse already
Please make our dreams come true
Anyone know the phrase ‘so close yet so far?’. That was our initial reaction when we learned that Benedict Cumberbatch is set to make an appearance as Doctor Strange in ‘Spider-Man 3’, starring Tom Holland.
The exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter doesn’t include many details, aside from the note that Doctor Strange would fill the mentor role previously filled by Robert Downey Jr’s Ironman in Homecoming and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in ‘Far From Home’.
Strange’s inclusion has piqued the interest of fans for one good reason: the idea of the multiverse. Or more appropriately, the concept of seeing Holland, Andrew Garfield, and OG Tobey Maguire as the holy trinity of Spider-Men in one film.
I’m not going to get excited for a live action Spider-Verse film until we get confirmation of Toby and/or Andrew coming back.
But IF that happens???????! Yes, I will fucking explode. pic.twitter.com/m14ChFgimB

Now, there are a couple of reasons that give fans hope that this fever dream might actually happen.
First, the next Doctor Strange film will deal with alternate universes. It’s literally in the title: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That film is reportedly tied to Spider-Man 3 as it’s planned to premiere three months after the Spidey sequel.
Second, Jamie Foxx’s now-deleted Instagram post. The actor celebrated the news of him returning as Electro (minus the blue tint) with Spider-Verse fan art, only to take it down a few moments later.
So Jamie Foxx has confirmed that he won’t be blue and he shared spider verse fan art then deleted it soon after. SOOO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN

Sure, it could’ve been a simple ‘mistake’ but again, anything can happen, which brings us to our third and final point: This is Marvel we’re talking about.
This is a studio that managed to cram some of the most popular actors of our generation into a saga spanning 10 years and 20-plus films. The same one that blew our minds with that final battle shot from Endgame, which made us go ‘holy f*ck, this is actually happening’.
We’re pretty confident that they have the power to haul Andrew or Tobey for, hell, even just a glorified cameo. It’ll be that time when Cap wielded Thor’s hammer. Or when J.K Simmons briefly returned as J. Jonah Jameson in ‘Far From Home‘.
The much-hyped ‘Spider-Verse’ could only happen for a few seconds, but it would be enough to make fans go apesh*t and replay the scene for the next decade or more.
So please, Marvel. Give us the goddamn crossover already.
