TIME magazine changes its logo after nearly a century to say ‘VOTE’
TIME magazine has joined the cries on the importance of voting when it changed its cover logo to bear the word ‘VOTE’. The title change marks the first in the publication’s near 100-year-history.
The new cover is in reaction to the upcoming United States presidential elections, whose outcome will affect a world that is slowly rebuilding amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a post, TIME Editor-In-Chief Edward Felsenthal says that the global epidemic, which has claimed millions of lives, questioned existing status quos, and tested leaders, provided a perspective on what things needed to be reformed.
‘How can we seize this moment of disruption to push for a world that is healthier, more resilient, sustainable, and just? What do all of us–individuals, businesses, and governments–need to do to ensure that we don’t simply revert to what was before?
The artwork was created by Shepard Fairey, who was also behind the iconic Barack Obama’s HOPE poster, which became a symbol of the latter’s 2008 presidential campaign.
But even if TIME’s new issue mainly focuses on the US elections, its stance on the importance of voting rings true for all. As we’ve said here before, if we want to rid the Philippines of dumbasses, register and exercise your right to do so.
‘This has been a year of so much pain, hardship, chaos, and loss. And yet as nations around the world begin to rebuild from the pandemic, it is clear that we also have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change our tune’.
