A Haruki Murakami library is dropping in Tokyo next year

MY HEART

Japan is set to build a Haruki Murakami-dedicated library in 2021, and we’re already packing. Oh wait, there’s a pandemic.

The famed author’s alma mater, Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, is set to complete the Waseda International House of Literature or the ‘Murakami Library’ by next year.

It will apparently showcase the writer’s donated personal archive and a wide array of all his books translated into several languages.

Designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the library will be a renovated extension of Waseda’s Tsubouchi Memorial Theatre Museum, a place Murakami regularly visited back when he was a student.

The space is also set to be a lively coworking area, rather than a hushed environment, as Kuma envisions a library where bookworms can talk about Murakami’s works and other literature over some coffee.

Sounds like pure heaven
