Drive-in theater who? PH is going to have a ‘float-in’ cinema
Just like a movie
In case you thought that drive-in movies were the pinnacle of romantic pandemic dates, we’re here to introduce you to ‘float-in cinemas‘ – and yep, it’s exactly what you think it is.
Megaworld Cinemas in McKinley Hall introduced the concept via Facebook, as they shared a short clip of a screen viewing on what appears to be the gondola ride in Venice Grand Canal Mall.
‘We can’t keep it a secret any longer! We’re so excited to be bringing the first and only float-in cinema in the Philippines this December,’ the post reads.
They haven’t shared further details just yet, but it’s likely a special holiday screening where couples and small families can catch a film while idly floating in the Grand Canal’s waters. Take that, drive-in cinemas.
Meanwhile, PH’s first drive-in theaters rolled out in SM Pampanga and SM Mall of Asia earlier this year, with implemented health protocols such as contactless service, physical distancing, and online bookings.
We admit we’re a bit wary on the ‘float-in’ idea though, as a gondola in the middle of the waters doesn’t sound as safe as the confines of your own car. Not to mention you’re still in a pvblic space, with the gondolier on the tiny boat with you.
We’ll have to wait on their safety protocols
