Japan is turning their capsule hotels into isolated workspaces
Per SoraNews24, Japan’s iconic capsule hotels are being renovated into distanced co-working spaces in light of lessening tourists amidst the pandemic.
The Gouka Capsule Hotel Anshino in Shinjuku, Japan serves as the first of its kind in the country, converting their once fluffy bed spaces into physically-distanced basic cubicles complete with hotel-wide WiFi and and outlets.
ICYDK, capsule hotels are miniature rooms in Japan that features a hall filled with small bed-sized rooms called capsules. It’s easily a staple for tourists visiting the country – at least pre-COVID.
Meanwhile, Japanese workers wanting a little WFH staycation can now rent out a pod and and have access to the hotel’s bathing facilities, sauna, regular sleeping capsules, and more.
Guests could also borror working equipment for free, such as a wireless mouse, keyboard, printer, phone chargers, and more.
Basically, think of your favorite coworking hub but make it for introverts. It’s feel is similar to their solo Ichiban ramen stations or this Japanese bar for one. Hey, it’s on brand.
Meanwhile, you can stay in the coworking space for an hour for 500 yen (PHP 230), 3 hours for 1,500 (PHP 690) yen gets you three hours, and a full productive day for 3,000 yen (PHP 1,380).
