‘Lilo & Stitch’ is getting a live-action reboot
Please, Disney
After a series of high (and devastatingly low)-selling live-action renditions of their classic films, Disney is now officially giving OG 2002 movie ‘Lilo & Stitch’ the modern adaptation treatment.
Per Variety, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ director Jon M. Chu is in talks to helm the project, as it joins a long list of refurbished Disney films like ‘Cinderella‘, ‘Beauty And The Beast‘, Aladdin‘, ‘The Lion King‘, and ‘Mulan‘.
Considering ‘Mulan‘s lead actress Liu Yifei’s controversial take on the Hong Kong riots causing the #BoycottMulan hashtag and its eventual box office flop, a lot of eyes are on Disney’s next lineup of live-action films.
ICYDK, ‘Lilo & Stitch’ follows a 6-year old Hawaiian girl named Lilo, who adopts an alien posing as a domestic doggo named Stitch. A whole lot of alien problems and beach boarding then ensue.
It’s since spawned numerous spin-offs like ‘Lilo & Stitch 2’ and ‘Lilo & Stitch: The Series’ running on Disney Channel from 2003 to 2006.
Hope they give CGI Stitch justice
