Netflix is dropping its very first Filipino-made BL series

A platform first

Mark your calendars for December 30, as Netflix is set to showcase the first Filipino-made Boys Love (BL) series on their platform.

Originally titled ‘Gameboys‘, the ‘level-up’ version for worldwide viewing will be renamed ‘Gameboys Level-Up Edition’ along with bonus footage like re-shot scenes, and ‘vidgram’ stories never-before-seen during its initial YouTube run.

ICYDK, ‘Gameboys‘ follows rival video game streamers Cairo (Elijah Canlas) and Gavreel (Kokoy de Santos) who get to know each other online amidst the pandemic. It was released in May of this year under The Ideafirst Company.

Our goal with ‘Gameboys’ was to create a truly Filipino BL while also delivering universal themes and messages about two boys who find themselves connecting during the pandemic using the all-computer-screen format,’ shared Gameboys creator Jun Robles Lana in a statement.

‘The global health crisis basically forced us to rethink how we were producing stories, and institute a work-from-home shoot, involving actors recording themselves using their personal phones, supervised by a small crew attending the set virtually,’ he added, as Gameboys was one of the first online shows created and centered around the pandemic.

‘We are excited to share Gameboys Level-Up Edition with the world through Netflix.’

We love to see it
