Netflix teases ‘Kingdom’ spin-off ‘Ashin of the North’
*Season 2 spoilers ahead*
Following the conclusion of its second season, Korean drama/zombie thriller Kingdom cemented itself as one of the best Netflix shows to date. Frenetic action, political intrigue, plot twists, this series has it all. And after gifting fans one heck of a thrill ride, Netflix left us salivating even more with Season 2’s conclusion.
After defeating the hordes of infected that ravaged Korea, Crown Prince Lee Chang and his followers undergo a self-imposed exile to search for the origins of the plague. They then encounter a mysterious woman (Gianna Jun), who seems to hold the answers they’ve been looking for.
While a third season has yet to be officially confirmed, Netflix has teased a spinoff called ‘Kingdom: Ashin of the North’. The sidequel will explore the past of our mystery character Ashin, as well as her ties to Royal Commander Min Chi-rok, played by Park Byung-Eun, who is also set to star.
No exact release date has been confirmed, only that the one-shot episode will air in 2021. Kingdom director/producer Kim Seong-hun will team up again with scriptwriter Kim Eun-hee to explore the origins of the resurrection plant and the infected.
