The very first Batman comic just got sold for PHP 41M
A price tag fit for a Wayne
Per Unilad, a 1939 limited-edition comic book featuring the very-first Batman story just got sold for $850,000, or PHP 40.9M.
Way before Batman became the Caped Crusader he is now, ‘Detective Comics No. 27’ introduced him in the short story titled ‘The Case of the Chemical Syndicate’.
Bruce Wayne made his first appearance in pop culture to solve the mysterious death of a chemical manufacturer. The millionaire is brought to the crime scene to investigate alongside Commissioner Gordon, but the suspects are soon swiftly brought to justice by a vigilante then called ‘Bat-man‘.
It’s later revealed that Batman and Bruce are *spoiler* one person, making for an epic plot twist almost 81 years ago.

Comic book marketplace ComicConnect sold the comic to an anonymous buyer, but co-owner Vincent Zurzolo said it probably would have gone for higher if the comic was in better condition, as it only rated 6/10 on the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) scale.
So no, you can’t just randomly sell your old and worn-out memorabilia for millions.
Despite the headache of a price, it’s only the second most expensive Batman-related sale in history, as another copy of the same comic sold for a whopping $1,075,500 (PHP 51.8M) with a 8/10 CGS scale.
Over on another fandom, the highest-auctioned Pokemon card was sold for PHP10.9M last October.
