Netflix is dropping a ‘Ghost Fighter’ live-action series
In a bid to ramp up its anime content, Netflix has apparently greenlit a live-action adaptation of ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ or as we Filos like to call it, ‘Ghost Fighter’. The news was announced by Netflix Japan.
It seems that plans are in the early stages, as there aren’t many details surrounding the title. Per Comicbook and Crunchyroll, the series will be executive produced by Kazutaka Sakamoto, who previously worked on Aggretsuko and serves as the Director of Content Acquisition at Netflix.

For those not in the know, Yu Yu Hakusho is based on the 1990 manga of the same name by Yoshihiro Tagashi and follows juvenile delinquent Yusuke Urameshi (or Eugene for us locals) who dies saving a child’s life. His death ironically gives him a new purpose in life, and he becomes a ‘Spirit Detective’ who investigates cases involving the supernatural.
The OG series first ran from 1992-1994 and is now available on Netflix. The streaming platform has found strength in the anime genre, where an estimated 100 million households watched the category in the past year alone. Also included in its upcoming titles is the series adaptation of the award-winning Filipino graphic novel, TRESE.
