Netflix is dropping a true crime series on the mysterious case of Elisa Lam

Another one to the list

Our fave (and oftentimes only) streaming service Netflix is set to drop a mini docuseries on the 2013 disappearance and death of Elisa Lam.

Titled ‘Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel’ the 4-part series will try to make sense of the 21-year-old’s strange actions after being found deceased in a water tank days after Cecil Hotel guests complained of water pressure issues.

The autopsy also found no evidence of harm nor trauma, with her death being deemed an accident despite the water tank cover apparently being locked and too heavy to lift by herself.

Numerous other theories had surfaced after Elisa’s passing, including paranormal activity and Elisa’s own mental health, as she was taking medication for bipolar disorder at the time.

Meanwhile, the upcoming docuseries will interview Cecil Hotel staff and the hotel’s own terrible history as well, as it’s eerily been the scene of over 16 deaths, accidental or otherwise.

‘As a true crime documentarian, I was fascinated in 2013 when the elevator video of Elisa Lam went viral,’ said director Joe Berlinger, pertaining to the CCTV footage of Elisa’s last moments seemingly talking to someone only she can see.

‘We realized there was as an opportunity to do something different by not just telling the story of Elisa’s disappearance, but to create a series that explores a particular location’s role in encouraging or abetting crime — or the perception thereof.’

‘Crime Scene’ is set to become a long-running Netflix series, tacking a different mysterious case with each season.
