Razer’s N95 mask is as extra as their PCs
As one of the leading gaming hardware manufacturers, Razer is top-of-mind when it comes to talks on just how extra PC builds can be. Nothing screams like ‘I’m fully invested’ than a monitor, keyboard, and CPU with a lighting effect that projects more than 16.8 million colors.
The penchant for theatrics has carried over to Razer’s newest venture called ‘Project Hazel’, dubbed as ‘the world’s smartest face mask’. It features an N95 respirator with two active ventilators that filter the air being breathed in and exhaled. The ventilators supposedly boast a 95% filtration rate against airborne particles, COVID-19 included.
And of course, the respirators also glow with Razer’s signature Chroma RGB lighting.
For easier interactions, the mask also features a clear, transparent design for better recognition of facial cues, as well as a built-in microphone and amplifier to avoid the muffling of speech. What’s not clear is if a Darth Vader sound effect is included.
Despite the extra hardware, Razer claims the mask is comfy and safe enough to use, with an ‘unobtrusive silicon guard’ that’s air-tight without the need to cover the wearer’s mouth.
As a final caveat on its safety standards, the mask is stored in a wireless charging box that hosts a UV light sterilization functionality. Again, extra.
If ‘Project Hazel’ sounds too advanced to be true, it’s because it is – for now. The mask remains in the developmental stage, as it has yet to receive the green light from bodies such as the Food and Safety Authority (FDA).
Still, here’s hoping it sees the light of day. With the pandemic here to stay for the foreseeable future, we’re all for inventions that could make our lives a little bit easier – or at least a little more entertaining.
