Telegram, the graveyard of your failed harots, now has 500M users

‘Change app?’

Telegram, everyone’s go-to app after ‘it’s a match!‘, has now reached a whopping 500M users. Maybe one of those members can finally be your soulmate or something?

According to Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, the app gained over 25 million new users in the span of three days following widespread backlash over a change in messaging competitor WhatsApp’s terms of service, as WhatsApp will apparently share users’ data to parent company Facebook.

‘These new users came from across the globe,’ Durov shared in a Telegram statement.

‘We’ve had surges of downloads before, throughout our 7-year history of protecting user privacy. But this time is different. People no longer want to exchange their privacy for free services.’

Tech Crunch

Since 2013, Telegram has been steadily gaining popularity for its clean app interface and end-to-end encryption.

It pretty much offers the same service as other messaging apps, but its headline privacy feature and speedy user experience make it stand out from the rest. Add the fact that it’s not connected to any of your social media profiles, and users are hooked.

Meanwhile, fellow messaging service app Signal also saw a 4,200% user gain after WhatsApp’s new terms – and a sizable endorsement from the world’s richest person, Elon Musk.

More users, more chances of winning
