Willy Wonka is apparently getting a ‘Joker’-esque origin movie

Well, that’s something

Fictional town weirdo/chocolate man Willy Wonka is set to make his solo film debut – and it’s apparently about to get dark.

Per Collider, the upcoming film simply titled ‘Wonka‘ is set to introduce the origins of Willy Wonka, as ‘Call Me By Your Name’s Timothée Chalamet and Marvel’s Tom Holland is in talks to play the pre-Johnny Depp/Gene Wilder version of the chocolate man.

ICYDK, you likely first met Wonka through the 2015 Tim Burton hit ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, but it was actually a remake of the 1971 OG ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ inspired by the Roald Dahl books.

Paddington’ director Paul King is set to direct the film, with American humorist Simon Rich spearheading the script.

The news of an origin film actually began back in 2018,  with names like Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling, and Ezra Miller first being attached to the project. This time, ‘Wonka’ is confirmed to drop on March of 2023.

Though there’s no official news on the casting just yet, we’re kinda hyped to see Timothée rocking that top hat, long coat, and an unspoken affinity with the Oompa Loompas.

Would still simp
