Netflix is dropping a DOTA 2 anime

Valve’s DOTA 2, the video game responsible for our skipped classes in high school and college, is now getting a Netflix series. Called DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, the synopsis on the Netflix press site reads:

‘The upcoming fantasy series tells the story of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined’.

The eight-episode series will be animated by Studio MIR, the same crew behind Legend of Korra and Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender. Ashley Edward Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

‘Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together with an epic, emotional, and an adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters’, said Miller in a statement.

‘The cinematic animation, acting, and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions’.

The show will launch globally on March 25.
