Roque really cited religion when asked about his VIP hospital treatment
Today in Dodging Questions 101, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque pulled another superb mental gymnastics when he was asked about the apparent VIP treatment of his COVID-19 diagnosis.
ICYDK, Roque was able to secure a hospital bed at the Philippine General Hospital during his second tussle with the virus. This, despite reports that facilities are at full capacity, with patients forced to cope and even die while waiting for admission.
When asked how he seemingly performed a miracle and summoned a hospital bed out of thin air (39:34), Roque chose to deflect the question, calling it ‘un-Christian‘.
‘Ang aking assurance lang, sa administrasyong Duterte, lahat po ay mabibigyan ng tulong’, said Roque. We’re not saints nor theologists here, but we could think of a million ‘un-Christian’ things before ‘being questioned for cutting in line while others suffer’ comes up.
And again, we appreciate the intent to further propagan-erm, ‘hope’. But when the view on the ground is different, with hospitals struggling to accommodate patients, the message of hope slowly starts to look like one of delusion.
