A mom from Laguna cooked an egg under the sun for her kids

The hot and humid weather in our country isn’t really something you want to endure, but a family from Laguna took the blazing heat as an opportunity to do something productive. Cecile Baltasar, a mother of two, decided to cook an egg under the sun for her children as an experiment.

In her Facebook post, Cecile wrote, ‘Welcome to the Philippines, where sunlight can get so harsh, it can literally cook an egg!’

Cecile included a timeline in her caption about how cooking an egg under the sun went. She started a minute after 12 noon by placing a small amount of cooking oil, broke an egg into the pan, and covered it. She also shared that she had to shoo away her dogs since they’re blocking the sunlight from the pan. In less than an hour, the egg white was already translucent, and at 3 p.m., the sunny side egg is ready to eat.

Cecile shared to GMA News Online that the idea came about when the weather was so hot, around 35 to 36ÂşC, and she wanted to experiment with her kids. She said to Reportr that she initially thought of burning a leaf with a magnifying glass but realized that they could easily do it even if it wasn’t hot. Instead, she opted to cook an egg for her kids to have visual proof of the heat.

The family had paired the fried egg with pan de sal for their merienda.

Before you get any ideas about cooking your own sun-fried eggs, do take note that it isn’t completely advisable. Apparently, eating sun-cooked creations may lead to food poisoning as per the Phoenix News Times. The amount of harmful bacteria doubles when egg-based dishes are left out for more than 20 minutes and are cooked below 60°C.
