Bruno Mars makes history with 5 diamond certified singles
Raise your hand if you already listened to a Bruno Mars album on repeat or probably sang along to his track in the shower. After 17 years in the music industry, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that he is the first and only artist in Gold & Platinum Awards history to earn five diamond single awards.
The RIAA defined the criteria for determining recipients of the Gold & Platinum Award on their website. It explained, ‘Originally conceived to honor artists and track sound recording sales, Gold & Platinum Awards have come to stand as a benchmark of success for any artist—whether they’ve just released their first song or Greatest Hits album.’
‘Love you Hooligans,’ Bruno Mars quoted RIAA’s tweet on Saturday and addressed his gratitude to his fans. ‘Thanks for rockin with me throughout this incredible journey. We’ve only just begun.’

The five tracks that earned Bruno a spot in making music history are namely Just the Way You Are (12-times platinum), Uptown Funk! and When I Was Your Man (11-times platinum), and That’s What I Like and Grenade (10-times platinum), as per Complex.
‘Congratulations to Bruno Mars – the first artist with five Diamond Single Awards in the history of RIAA’s Gold and Platinum Program! This milestone is a testament to Bruno’s unstoppable creative genius and the incredible partnership he has built with the team at Atlantic Records,’ said in a statement by Mitch Glazier, Chairman and CEO, Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).’
‘What Bruno has accomplished is just extraordinary. Fewer than 60 Diamond Single Awards have ever been awarded – and Bruno now has five of them!’ he continued.
The announcement of his RIAA award was followed shortly by another celebratory tweet by Anderson.Paak. His tweet was in relation to Silk Sonic’s track Leave The Door Open remaining in the number one spot on its second week on Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. The song’s music video currently has over 237 million views to date.
