‘Parasite’ director Bong Joon Ho will make his first animated film
Ever since Parasite made history during the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020, people are anticipating more films from its director. The long wait is over since Bong Joon Ho is set to direct his first Korean animated film.
The still untitled CGI-animated feature follows a story that occurs between deep-sea creatures and human beings as per Screen Daily. Bong will enter the world of animation by partnering with the 4th Creative Party, a Korean VFX production house. They started working on the screenplay of the upcoming film since 2018, and he finished the script in January. The director has a history of working with the production company for his past films such as The Host, Snowpiercer, and Okja.
During a 90-minute podcast in February with Rian Johnson on The Director’s Cut, Bong already dropped hints on the two films that he was working on. During their conversation, he shared that he finished one of his two scripts, ‘It feels like I’m splitting my brain in half left and right writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week.’
Bong is currently working on a script for a live-action English-language film that is set to be released before his animated flick.
Known for his satirical thriller film Parasite, Bong brought home four awards during the 2020 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, and Original Screenplay.
