Deviating away from the conventional ways influencers make content, enter the feed of Jazmin Reyes, whose posts each have a story to tell. Jaz, as her followers would call her, fills her Instagram feed with conceptual images that are byproducts of a creative mind worth diving into.
If you have an affinity towards Hanne Zaruma and Nicole Mclaughlin‘s creations, you’d definitely enjoy going through Jaz’s account. She exhibits her resourceful approach by recycling high-end fashion pieces, recreating items through chocolate bars, and presenting out-of-the-ordinary photos paired with a witty caption. Her content might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no denying that she establishes substance and artistry at the center of her work.
Outside of Instagram, Jaz shares a YouTube channel with her brother where they produce content that revolves around reviews on fashion, beauty, movies, and finance. She also manages a creative dessert business called 11:11.
On the day we got in touch with Jaz for the interview, she was occupied by setting up a community pantry in their village. She shared, “My brother actually started the idea because he heard about it first. Then we started to get more people to help and pitch in.”
“Some neighbors just volunteered to help in little things like making a sign, donating their time to make sure everyone is socially distanced, etc. It’s great to see the community getting together (socially distanced of course),” she added.
While the 29-year-old’s Instagram account shows satire designer creations, photo manipulated fashion posts, and even statement earrings that come in the form of nuggets – she doesn’t stray away from sensitive topics that are present in our country.
When posed with the question about what fuels her to make this type of content, she explained, “It is definitely motivated by current affairs. Political or not, it is about what’s been buzzing on my timeline, the conversation at the dinner table, and chat groups.
“Sometimes, it’s an inner desire to voice out my own opinion regarding the issue or topic at hand, but other times, it’s to be able to disseminate information in my own voice,” she continued.
We asked her to explain the concept behind some images below that show her penchant for voicing out pressing social issues. Whether you’re looking for inspiration for personal creations or you simply want to view her work, these photos will add up to new ideas.

“Most of my work is motivated by issues I’m surrounded by. And that time, I just learned a lot [about] vaccines and had a conversation with my following about it. Some people are picky about the brand, but efficacy isn’t based on brand. [It’s] about being able to have everyone protected. No one is safe unless everyone is safe.”

“This was the time when a local celebrity raised an issue on women’s clothing to be the sole reason as to why women get raped and abused. Total BS. I love fashion, and it’s an art form to celebrate self-expression,” Jaz said.
She continued, “However, [when] one chooses to express themselves, [that] should not be a reason to invite abuse and total disregard of basic human rights. I felt so passionate about this topic and thought that this would be the perfect way to express myself.”

“[I] made this during the time where media is to be censored, supervised, or even red-tagged. The fear of one day, I’ll be not only missing in the freedom and liberty of expression but also literally be missing because the government seems like they can take anyone’s life without a mere reconsideration is terrifying. And I hope it was able to translate to others when they saw this.”

“I wanted to infuse local Filipino snacks and current affairs. That time, we saw our cases spike to its highest, and it’s a number to be alarmed by. I think, some people didn’t realize how grave the situation was, and I thought that the manipulation of it on our everyday snack was able to make the information shareable.”
