This Studio Ghibli and Pixar trio is a collab you’d want to see
In case you missed it, Studio Ghibli’s official Twitter account posted an artwork from an iconic scene in My Neighbour Totoro, but with an unexpected twist – it also included two familiar Pixar figures.
The tweet shows Totoro on the right holding an umbrella that can barely cover him from the rain. Replacing Mei and Satsuki are the two characters from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.. You can see Mike Wazowski with a leaf on top of his head and Sulley Sullivan, who’s also carrying an umbrella.

The tweet wasn’t accompanied by any announcements regarding a collaboration or even a caption, but it was enough to send fans into a frenzy. However, it wouldn’t be the first time for the two animation studios to collaborate if ever something does push through, since Totoro already made a cameo in Toy Story 3.
On a personal level, Pixar co-founder John Lasseter and Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki were already acquainted with each other around 40 years ago. They reportedly became friends when Miyakazi worked on My Neighbour Totoro in 1987, as per Dazed.
Since the Pixar x Studio Ghibli tweet doesn’t really indicate a new film, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet. The drawing turned out to be an old one, having already been seen hanging in Studio Ghibli’s offices in Tokyo. It was also spotted in an anime industry documentary that was broadcasted in Japan on Nippon Hoso Kyokai in December 2019, according to Hypebeast.
