Tinder and Bumble will soon offer an exclusive badge to vaccinated users

Government officials and health experts from all around the world are finding different ways on how to encourage people to get vaccinated. The White House partnered with several popular dating apps like Tinder and Bumble to promote getting vaccinated for Covid-19 by offering exclusive perks to users.

The dating platforms set to participate are Bumble, Badoo, and several apps under the Match Group, such as Tinder and OkCupid, among others, as per Forbes.

A few of the Match Group-owned apps added their own spin when they took the announcement on Twitter. Chispa said caring about others is hot, Plenty of Fish considers being vaccinated against Covid-19 is universally attractive, and OkCupid urged vaccinated users to place the new vaxxed badge on their profile.

At the same time, Kevin Munoz, White House Assistant Press Secretary, quoted a tweet of a White House reporter, showing his Tinder profile that indicates that he’s vaccinated.

Bumble and Badoo will give users who received a Covid-19 shot the option to add a “vaccinated” badge to their profiles. Both dating apps will also give credit to features like Spotlights and Superswipes, as per Axios. Bumble even has a post on their website containing suggestions on how to date after you get vaccinated.

On the other hand, Match Group’s press release revealed what each dating platform would offer. In particular, Tinder users can choose to advocate to get vaccinated by using the stickers that state “I’m Vaccinated” or “Vaccines Save Lives.” Users who support the initiative will also be receiving a free “Super Like.” Additionally, the app will have a “Vaccine Center” containing a suite of resources that can help users locate the nearest vaccination site.

Tinder CEO Jim Lazone said in a statement, ‘We’re excited to work with the White House to help 70% of American adults get vaccinated by July 4th. Nothing like fireworks to signal a new spark and a new start for those looking to meet new people IRL this summer.’

The verification process on knowing whether a user is vaccinated or not remains uncertain, but apps like Tinder have verification features, so it theoretically indicates that they have the capacity to verify similar details, as per The Verge.

The campaign is set to roll out in the coming weeks and will be available until July 4 in America. However, the availability of the feature to launch in other countries is uncertain. A Tinder Spokesperson said to BBC News, ‘We are looking into ways we can best share information and resources around the vaccine to our members around the world.’
