Twitter will start granting blue verified badges again after four years
Twitter’s recent announcement involves a blue check mark, and it will probably grab the attention of brands or public figures who want to establish their authenticity. After taking a break for four years, the bird app is back on accepting verification requests from everyone who wants to give it a shot.
On Thursday, Twitter Verified‘s account addressed one of their users’ concerns and stated, ‘Save your Tweets and DMs, there’s a new official way to apply for a blue badge, rolling out over the next few weeks. You can now submit an application to request verification in-app, right from your account settings!’

In Twitter’s official blog post, they explained the eligibility criteria and updated policy for the relaunch of their verification process. They also said that they removed the verified mark from accounts that no longer fit the new criteria, including those that were incomplete or inactive.
Users who have plans on getting verified must be “notable, authentic, and active,” according to Twitter product manager B Bryne, as per News18 Tech. ‘Notable’ accounts should be backed by An established organization; ‘Authentic’ accounts should have a basic list of criteria with a photo icon, a valid bio, and other basic details; Lastly, an ‘active’ account should literally be active the last six months.
Other requirements include having a confirmed email address and mobile number and shouldn’t have violated Twitter’s community guidelines within the last six months. It doesn’t stop there — those who want to get verified should also fit in one of the six categories that can qualify below:
- Government
- Companies, brands and organizations
- News organizations and journalists
- Entertainment
- Sports and gaming
- Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals
The blog post stated that the application will be located on the user’s Account Settings tab, but it won’t appear at once since Twitter is gradually rolling it out. After sending in the application, users will receive an emailed response within a few days up until a few weeks. Once the application is approved, the blue tick that they’ve been waiting for will finally appear!
