A factory worker received his entire salary in centavo coins

While payday is something that people look forward to, this certain incident that happened to a factory worker was downright frustrating. The worker, who is employed at Next Green Factory, received two days worth of salary amounting to P1,056 that was given in 5 and 10-centavo coins.

Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian met with a representative from the company and the worker who received centavo coins. However, the mayor has yet to schedule a meeting with the factory owners who are out of town to discuss the complaint. He said in a post, ‘Sending a company representative won’t cut it for me.’

‘I’ll see to it that we get to the bottom of this “cruel and unusual” labor practice and deal with it accordingly,’ he continued

The concern reached Gatchalian after he was tagged by the worker’s cousin in a Facebook post that reads, ‘Sobrang pambabastos po talaga ‘to sa pinsan ko na ganito ‘yung pinasahod puro sentimo binigay sa kanya, 12 hours ‘yung duty tapos P528 lang pasahod sa kanila.’

In a report by ABS-CBN News, a circular issued by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in 2006 states that 1 centavo, 5 centavos, 10 centavos, and 25 centavos are allowed as payment in amounts that won’t be exceeding P100. Also, coins from P1 to P5 can be used as payment in amounts not exceeding P1,000.
