Chel Diokno will run in 2022 and the Internet celebrated with memes

It’s official: Chel Diokno clarified that he will run in the 2022 elections.

Despite missing to land a seat in the Senate during the 2019 midterm elections, Diokno has been nominated by the opposition coalition 1Sambayanan as President or Vice President. However, he has yet to decide what position he would go for, as per Rappler.

In the Facebook post of Dioko declaring his announcement, he shared that he never aspired to run as President or Vice President. He added, ‘But I think it’s important that ordinary Filipinos and the youth have a voice.’

‘Our justice system is not gonna get fixed unless people in power see the problem and do something about it.’ he continued. ‘I’ve been a lawyer for three decades, every day I work on my Free Legal Helpdesk, and I’ve seen it firsthand. I know how we should fix our justice system.’

Other 1Sambayanan nominees include Senator Grace Poe (Independent), Batangas 6th District Representative and Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos-Recto (Nacionalista Party), VP Leni Robredo (LP), Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV (Magdalo), and CIBAC Representative and Deputy Speaker Eddie Villanueva (Bangon Pilipinas).

Diokno also took his announcement to Twitter, which led to several users creating memes out of excitement. While there were many of them, some played around with Taylor Swift’s lyrics, an iconic scene from Tangled, a hyped-up Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc., and a classic Pepe The Frog image.
