DENR is adding coconut trees to its manila bay rehab project
It has been less than a year since the white sand made up of dolomite was made available to the public. Remember how a person stared at a photo of Manila Bay to cure his mental health? Well, people have yet to hear what the latest coconut tree planting project for the rehabilitation initiative has in store for the Filipinos.
Earlier today, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) posted their project on Twitter dubbed as “Coconut Planting Activity”. Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu was present for the ceremonial planting along Roxas Boulevard.
‘The activity is in relation to the continuing activities and efforts of the department for the clean-up and rehabilitation of Manila Bay,’ read an advisory reported by Manila Bulletin.

Last month, DENR received an additional budget of P265 million on top of the initial P389 million for the second phase of the dolomite sand project, as per Rappler. This will cover adding one meter of sand, installation of solar-powered lighting, temporary fencing, and a fishing wharf.
There are no reports yet on the total amount spent on today’s Coconut Planting Activity as of writing.
Joining DENR in the ceremony are officials from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Manila City government. They will deliver “messages of support” during the event, as per Manila Bulletin.
