Kim Jong-un apparently has a secret anti-K-pop campaign
After his move on banning skinny jeans over the fear of capitalism, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly declared a secretive anti-Kpop campaign. It aims to prevent the influence and roll-out of South Korean K-dramas and K-pop videos.
As bizarre as it may sound, there is actually a leaked internal document from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea containing evidence on the news of the culture war, as per Daily NK.
The material is called the Anti-Reactionary Ideology and Culture Rejection Act, and its translation from the website reads, ‘If you bring in and distribute a large amount of South Korean films, recordings, compilations and books, you will be sentenced to life imprisonment or the death penalty.’

Jong-un sees the cultural exports from South Korea as an “anti-socialist” influence, as per Billboard. He claimed that it corrupted the “attire, hairstyles, speeches, behaviors” of North Koreans which was affecting his authority. In an effort to gain back his power, he introduced a number of new laws that heightened the punishment of users who possess South Korean entertainment in December.
‘To Kim Jong-un, the cultural invasion from South Korea has gone beyond a tolerable level,’ Jiro Ishimaru, chief editor of the Asia Press International, which monitors North Korea, told the New York Times. ‘If this is left unchecked, he fears that his people might start considering the South an alternative Korea to replace the North.’
