Telegram finally has a group video call and sharescreen option

The unofficial graveyard of your failed harots a.k.a. Telegram recently stated on its blog post a couple of new updates including features such as group video calls and screensharing.

It has been over a year since the messaging platform first announced the arrival of the new features. The blog post explained that participants in a group chat can switch to video calls by clicking the camera icon to turn their video on. The user also can pin a video of a certain participant for them to focus on.

There are unlimited audio-only participants who can join a group’s call, but video calls are limited to the first 30 people who join the chat. Telegram shared on their post that they will increase the number of people for the feature soon.

Participants who are in a group call can also simultaneously share their screens. The option to use this feature can be seen in the menu.

Users who use tablet and desktop devices get additional support. Since these devices offer more screen space, users will see a split-screen view showing a video grid and the list of participants. It can be used in both portrait and landscape orientation.

On desktops, users can opt for selective screensharing to broadcast a specific program instead of their whole screen, similar to how users share via Zoom. Their voice chats will also appear on a separate window for an easier way to type and talk.

Telegram also included animated backgrounds, message animations and emojis, a bot menu, and even an option to import stickers.
