The World’s Most Premature Baby celebrated his first birthday this month

There are a lot of surprising world records that exist right now, and joining the list is this 1-year-old baby boy who is considered as the most premature baby to survive by Guinness World Record (GWR).

Brought out to the world 5 months earlier than he should, Richard Scott William Hutchinson was born on June 5, 2020. His mother experienced medical complications which led to her immediate labor, as per CNN.

Baby Richard was so tiny that both of his parents could carry him with just one hand. Weighing 340 g (11.9 oz), he needed to be placed in a neonatal intensive care unit for seven months. Neonatologist Dr. Stacy Kern told GWR that he informed the parents of their child’s 0% chance of survival.

‘I knew the first few weeks of Richard’s life would be very difficult, but I felt that if he could make it through that, he would be a survivor,’ he said.

Despite the difficulties, Richard was discharged last December and was able to head home. His mom shared to GWR, ‘We love the staff that took care of our son, and wish we could share him with them all the time. He was called the ‘miracle baby’ when he was there. I agree with them.’

Fast forward to June 2021, Richard celebrated his first birthday with his family and three dogs. This was considered a milestone for the young survivor.
