A Picasso painting found in a closet was sold for over 7 million pesos
Some people find old photographs or childhood treasures when cleaning out their closets, but surprisingly, a man from Maine discovered a valuable painting by Pablo Picasso. The piece was auctioned for more than $150,000 or approximately P7,392,675, as per Boston Globe.
The original signed and dated 1919 artwork titled Le Tricorne is a mixed media on paper with a size of 16 x 16 inches. It’s described as a “maquette for Picasso’s largest work by the same title on exhibit at the New-York Historical Society, New York City.”
The piece was sold through The Amesbury-based auction house John McInnis Auctioneers. The unnamed buyer has a minimum of 120 days to authenticate the piece through The Claude Picasso Administration.

The website liveauctioneers.com contained Le Tricorne’s description and a story behind its authenticity. The anonymous seller shared, ‘This painting was discovered in a house owned by my great aunt which was passed down to her from her uncle in the late 1930s.’
‘The home was later inherited by my father and now me,’ the seller continued. He also added that several other paintings were stored in the closet for 50 years, along with Picasso’s piece.
