Erik Matti’s ‘On The Job’ sequel is the only PH entry at Venice film fest
There are many local movies that have taken part in international film competitions. Joining the roster is Director Erik Matti’s On The Job: The Missing 8, which will premiere and compete in the 78th Venice International Film Festival.
The film festival’s official selection was unveiled by Venice Biennale’s president Roberto Cicutto and artistic director Alberto Barbera. Among the 21 feature-length movies, Matti’s entry is the only one from the Philippines.
The director also took the announcement on his Instagram as he posted an image showing that his recent film is included in the Italian festival. Supporters and fellow industry workers like Iza Calzado, Janno Gibbs, and Janine Tugonon were quick to congratulate him in the comments section.

On The Job: The Missing 8 is a three 3-hour film starring John Arcilla, Dennis Trillo, and Dante Rivero. The movie follows a journalist who investigates the disappearance of his colleagues and a hitman-inmate who’s on the job. It’s a follow-up to Matti’s 2013 action-thriller film On The Job that features Joel Torre, Gerald Anderson, and Piolo Pascual.
Parasite Director Bong Joon Ho will be part of the Venice Film Festival’s jury this year, which will run from September 1 to 11.
