This Filipino attempts to break a world record with an electronic hoverboard

Only a few people get the chance to land a world record, and a Filipino engineer named Kyxz Mendiola was determined to bring one home.

Mendiola posted an 8-minute video showing his attempt at setting a new world record for the ‘Longest Distance Flight using an Electronic Powered Hoverboard.’ Before riding the electric vehicle, he said, ‘Hopefully, we only do it once. The goal is to do it one time and to go past the existing world record.’

The hoverboard made its way through the beachfront of Subic Bay in Zambales as it traveled with a distance of 2,894 meters or 2.8 kilometers. It also had a total flight time of seven minutes and 22 seconds, with a 20 to 30 feet altitude.

The electric vehicle was created by Mendiola and Star 8 Green Technology Corporation. Their prototype hoverboard couldn’t be properly navigated back in 2017, but it successfully lifted off the ground after major upgrades.

Mendiola has plans to send the feat to Guinness World Records for it to become official. He was able to beat Franky Zapata, the current titleholder of the world record. The French jet ski champion flew his ‘Flyboard Air,’ which operated a distance of more than 2,252 meters (7,388 feet) in 2016.

Mendiola didn’t forget to acknowledge his team, sponsors, family, and everyone who had his back. He also said, ‘Sa mga dreamers out there, sa mga inventors, innovators, sa mga extreme, sa mga hardworking… Thank you, thank you [to] everyone. Let’s keep inspiring each other.’
