7-Eleven launched its OG ‘Slurpee’ to outer space

Some people intimately celebrate important life events, while others like it to be grand. For 7-Eleven’s 94th birthday, it obviously went for the latter option as they launched a Slurpee drink to outer space. The cup was designed with a galaxy background and a character that looks like its iconic drink riding a rocket.

7-eleven successfully sent its iconic beverage to the galaxy through a private space flight on Tuesday. It departed at the Slurpee capital of America a.k.a. Michigan. The international convenience store also tweeted casual updates before the cosmic cup departed. One post read, ‘plz @ a space pilot who’ll work for free. must be available on 8/10’.

‘We’re celebrating all things summer, Slurpee drinks and skateboarding during Brainfreeze SZN at 7‑Eleven… Some would say we’re reaching for the stars,’ said Marissa Jarratt, 7‑Eleven Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer.

Before deciding on which Slurpee flavor should reach the stars, 7-eleven posted that it will be casting votes until the end of July. Customers bought their fave variant that they think deserves to go up, up and away.

The array of choices consisted of Cosmic Coca-Cola or Cherry, Big Bang Blue Raspberry, Planetary Peach Perfect, and Galactic vitaminwater Zero Sugar Gutsy. Since only one can be delivered to space, Coca-Cola Slurpee won since it turned out to be the fan favorite and the most ordered flavor.
