Eumir Marcial will receive 7 million pesos for his Olympic run

Team Philippines is doing great in the Tokyo Olympics. Last week, Hidilyn Diaz bringing home gold, followed by Nesthy Petecio landing silver a few days ago, and now Eumir Marcial secured a bronze. The boxer lost to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Khyzhniak during the men’s middleweight event.

During the boxing match at the Kokugikan Arena, Marcial and Khyzhiniak were both in an all-out brawl and landed heavy punches. The Filipino boxer sustained a cut on his head in the first round, while his opponent got a cut on his nose bridge during the second round. However, the judges decided to hand the final round to Khyziniak.

‘This is a very wonderful, very nice tournament, the decision is fair,’ said Marcial after his bout. He still expressed his gratitude to have achieved his goal of competing for an Olympic tournament.

‘I won the bronze medal, so I’m so proud of myself,’ he added. ‘But if they give me a chance again and the opportunity to compete in another Olympics, I’ll just grab the opportunity, and I’ll work again, hard, to win the gold medal.’
