Filipinos apparently searched for pizza 6 million times on Grab
Sometimes you suddenly crave your fave food. If pizza is one of them, then you might be part of the six million people who searched for it, as mentioned in the GrabFood report. The food-delivery app recently released its trend report that entails the buying behavior of its users and how it changed during the pandemic.
Ever since the unprecedented restrictions and closure due to COVID-19, Grab’s report stated that more people turned to food delivery as a way of ordering meals. Users from its app doubled in 2020 compared to 2019.
The main consumers are mostly young families because it saves them the hassle of meal prep and cleaning up, particularly on busy weekdays. It also stated that users order through the app to satisfy food cravings that they can’t cook, lack of time to cook, and not worry about traffic or parking.
The food trend report shared that users mostly order during dinner, lunch, and teatime, a.k.a. merienda. It also listed the 10 food categories that Filipinos searched on GrabFood:
1. Fast food
2. Pizza
3. Cake
4. Bakery
5. Chinese
6. Doughnuts
7. Milk tea
8. Burgers
9. Coffee
10. Chicken
While the food mentioned above sounds delicious to eat, the report also explained that consumers have become more health-conscious in recent years. This includes the way they think about food. In fact, 3 in 4 Filipinos want to eat healthier. Grab also listed the healthy meals consumers love:
1. Salad
2. Sandwiches
3. Smoothies
4. Soup
5. Steamed food
The research was based on NielsenIQ’s research where it used interviews with food industry professionals, consumer surveys, and focus groups. It also included insights obtained from Grab’s internal database between 2019–2020.
