Pia Wurtzbach proudly wears Filipino fashion for Vogue Italia

There are Filipinos from all over the world who are representing the country in their respective fields. When it comes to fashion, former Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzback was the muse for a feature in Vogue Italia. The editorial’s theme was Indigenous Futurism, a movement inspired by the Afrofuturism of the Black Panther.

Pia sported several looks that were created by wearing creations by Victor, Christine Tiu, Ron Aguro, and Thian Rodriguez. The theme explores the idea of what indigenous fabrics would appear like in the future. It’s described as a “political creative project” amid the trying times that the world is going through.

‘What would the future look like if indigenous teachings and culture were at the center of humanity’s new frontier in environmental conservation, in science, in the unsolved problems of inequality, ignorance and prejudice?’ wrote Di Riccardo Terzo.

The all-Filipino creative team who collaborated with the former beauty queen in the fashion editorial piece are Mj Suayan (Photographer), Victor Mari C. Baguilat Jr (Stylist), Okada Manila / Donna Patricia Lopez Manio (Producer), Renz Pangilinan (Hair), and Mickey See (Makeup).

Pia posted the photos used for the Vogue Italia piece on her Instagram. She said that her team shed light on weavers from Lih’han Di Immipugo of Kiangan, Ifugao. Her caption read, ‘This is a look at our culture into the future: of what could have been, and what it could still be.’

‘There is much to see and learn — from our ever-evolving culture, from every Filipino’s heART and soul,’ she added. ‘Everything is intertwined and in fashion, it’s inspiring when different creatives come together — from weavers to designers to artists to photographers. New stories arise from each concept piece, each photo output.’
